Rigel Sauri (born in 1966 in Mérida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán) is a Mexican artist who paints murals and pictures. He currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States and in Yucatán, Mexico
Rigel Sauri moved to Mexico City with his family when he was seven years old. When he was seventeen years old he left Mexico City and he wandered for few years. He lived in many tourist towns and resorts in Mexico, including Acapulco, Ixtapa, Cancún and Cozumel. Around 1989, Sauri met his first wife Marlene Irwin in Ixtapa, Mexico. She was from San Pablo, Minnesota, he moved to the United States. Although they are now divorced, she sometimes helps Sauri with his murals and they are very good friends.
Self-taught artist combined with an artistic family background. Painting was a hobby that often showed up in his life. He tried different paths of life but eventually painting became the obvious career choice. When he moved to Minneapolis in 1989 he had decided on following visual art as his path.
Rigel started painting for a living soon after arriving to the United States and soon became his main source of income allowing him to paint murals and paintings full-time.
Sauri paints murals and paintings for companies, art collectors, and private and commercial spaces. Lately he has been working on self funded projects painting murals in small villages in Mexico, mainly around the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula but with hopes of expanding the project following whatever direction it takes.
