On 27 July 2025, at 18:10 CEST, two train cars of the Regional-Express 55 derailed in Riedlingen, Biberach. Approximately 50 passengers were on board. At least three people, the train driver and two passengers, were killed and approximately 36 were injured, according to Reutlingen's emergency dispatch center. Investigators were dispatched to the site of the derailment. Thomas Strobl, the minister of the interior for Baden-Württemberg, stated that heavy rainfall could have caused the derailment. Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Baden-Württemberg minister-president Winfried Kretschmann expressed their condolences.<ref name="ZeitInfo"/>
