Rickey Gulipardo

Ricardo "Rickey" Gulipardo (born October 31,1967 in Homohon Island, Guiuan Eastern Samar, Territory of the Philippines) is a Filipino-born former professional baseball player. Gulipardo was raise at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is the first Filipino born player to play professional baseball in America. Gulipardo played 16 years (1986-2000, 2004) in professional baseball with numerous organizations, mostly Independent leagues. Played professionally in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Early Life
Rickey was born to Corazon Gulipardo,who is Filipino. His mother had him at a young age. When he was 4 years old, his mother married an American Airman. His mother came to American when Rickey was 5 years old, he was raised in Homonhon island by his grandparents. Rickey came to America when he was just 8 years old. Grew up at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Went to grade school with Iran Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi daughter at Lackland Air Force Base in the fall of 1979. Got to meet the Shah of Iran as a child.
High School
Rickey attended Southwest High School from 1982-1984 in San Antonio, Texas. But played varsity football as a freshman for Lackland Air Force Base. Was a three way player for the Lackland Warhawks football team, playing RB,LB,K. Lead the team in rushing with 2,411 yards on 280 attempts with 16 TD's, kicked a 56 yard FG during the season. Played varsity baseball his Freshman & Sophomore year at Southwest High School. He batted .440 with 10 HR's 28 RBI's as a Freshman and .410 as a sopmore with 8 HR's and 23 RBI's. Was sent down for 10 games to the JV squad for fighting on the bus with another teammate. Had a 6-1 record as a pitcher, with a 1.40 ERA, had 58 strikeout's in 26 innings pitched. Was a baseball & football high school teammate of former Brigham Young University Quarterback and the 1990 Heisman Tropy winner Ty Detmer. In the summer of 1984 Rickey's stepfather was transferred to Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona. Rickey attended and graduated from Peoria High School in Peoria, Arizona in 1986.
