Rick Renstrom (born June 9, 1971 in Akron, Ohio) is an American shred metal guitarist. He has worked with Rob Rock, Wade Black, Richard Christy, Mat Sinner and Atma Anur. Rick has beaten all the odds to become one of the top Neo-Classical guitarists in the world. Biography Contrary to popular belief, Rick Renstrom was not born with phocomelia. He was diagnosed with a congenital birth defect of his upper extremities. He became interested in playing guitar at the age of fifteen after being inspired by a Yngwie Malmsteen performance that he saw on television. Some of his biggest guitar influences include Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, Al Di Meola, Andy LaRocque, Ronni Le Tekrø. He also draws influence from classical composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He has worked with several bands and artists throughout his career, most notably Rob Rock and Richard Christy. Rick was instrumental in connecting Richard with Chuck Schuldiner to join Death and Control Denied when Chuck was producing Rick's previous band. He has also appeared on various other compilations. In 2003 he released his debut solo album, Until the Bitter End. Rick's video for "The Fire Within" has been viewed over 250,000 times. After a near 6 year Hiatus, In 2010, Rick again joined Wade Black to form Black Reign. 2011 also brings forth Holmes And Slice a Neo-Classical instrumental group in which Rick is the guitarist, songwriter and Co-Producer. Holmes and Slice features drum legend Atma Anur, who has worked with every major Shrapnel Records artist.
