Richard Keatley

Richard Keatley is an American academic and politician who is a candidate as representative in Georgia's 6th congressional district special election, 2017 vacated by Tom Price. Dr. Keatley teaches French and Italian language, literature and culture at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a resident of Tucker, Georgia.
Early Life and Education
Keatley was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, one of four children. His father and grandfather were in the Navy and his father worked in the Goodyear plant in Akron. Keatley attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute on a ROTC scholarship and was a member of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. He served in the United States Navy including the First Gulf War, was stationed overseas, and attained the rank of Lieutenant.
Academic Career
Keatley teaches French and Italian language, literature and culture at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. His research focuses on the interrelationship between French and Italian Literature and Culture of the Italian Renaissance. He has run summer language programs for students in Perugia, Italy and Venice, Italy.
Political Career
Keatley qualified as a candidate for representative to the United States Congress in Georgia's 6th Congressional District for the position vacated by Tom Price after he was nominated by Donald J. Trump as Director of Health and Human Services. This is seen as a key congressional race and has received national attention as the first since the election of Donald Trump and considered to be highly contested as one that might change to the Democrats after years of Republican representation by Price, Newt Gingrich, and others.
