Rich Shapero (born 1948) is an American venture capitalist, self-published writer, and musician. He grew up in Los Angeles and attended UC Berkeley where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in English literature. He is a partner at the venture capital company Crosspoint and a board member at AristaSoft and New Edge Networks. Wild Animus Shapero's book Wild Animus: A Novel was released in 2004 using print-on-demand technology by his publishing company, Too Far. Initially 50,000 copies were printed, and copies of the book have been given away in for promotional purposes. Shapero has also published three CDs, The Ram, The Wolves and Animus, which have used in free promotional distribution, both separately and in a boxed set with the book. Promotion of Shapero's work in Australia included the use of a US dance ensemble. The book tells the story of Sam, a Berkeley graduate who is drawn to the Alaskan wilderness by a deepening identification with the wild mountain ram. Changing his name to Ransom, Sam and his girlfriend, Lindy, embark on a quest which takes them ever northward as Ransom seeks to understand and harness the animal's passion and wisdom. On May 4, 2010, the distribution of boxes of Shapero's book at Yale University caused a false bomb alarm.
