Rhino Africa

Rhino Africa is a South African company that was founded in 2004 by David Ryan under the name Rhino Africa Safaris. Based in Cape Town, it is an online travel agency/tour operator that offers tailor-made tours and luxury safaris covering East and Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
History
In 2004, Rhino Africa was started in founder David Ryan’s kitchen in Cape Town. In 2007, the German division was established. The next year, Rhino Africa was able to expand the scope of their operations and support conservationists Wildlife ACT and educators Good Work Foundation. Within four years, the company had grown to 50 employees and by 2015 the number had grown to 125 with offices in Cape Town and London. Currently, the company counts approximately 200 employees, with its operations now running solely in Cape Town.
Concept
The company specializes in online luxury tailor-made itineraries, operating in 18 different countries. Rhino Africa claims to providing expert advice about African destinations and luxury experiences to its guests.
The founder believes in doing good and takes part in charity work, sustainable development programs, fundraising programs and wildlife conservation through different organizations.

Rhino Africa counts approximately 200 employees and they create itineraries for around 15,000 guests per year with revenue estimated at 2.5 million dollars per year. The travel agency operates in 5 different languages (English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese).
Accommodation
Rhino Africa works with multiple service providers, among these, two are owned and operated by the tour operator:
* MannaBay: Located at 8 Bridle Road in Oranjezicht in Cape Town. The hotel consists of one suite and 7 luxury rooms with a capacity of 16 guests.
* Silvan Safari: A safari lodge located in Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve that shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. The lodge consists of 5 suites and one family suite with a capacity of 14 guests.
World Travel Awards
The World Travel Awards are adjudicated by an international panel of hospitality experts and peers and presented to hotels as well as other hospitality companies.
* Africa’s Leading Safari Company: Rhino Africa has been voted as Africa’s Leading Safari Company by the World Travel Awards for six consecutive years in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. The agency is running in the same category in the 2019 edition.

Social Responsibilities
Kids from Khumbulani
As a partner of the Khumbulani Day Care Center, Rhino Africa participates in the growth of the facility that feeds and educates over 300 HIV infected and affected children in the township of Khayelitsha in Cape Town.
Good Work Foundation
The GWF is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) whose main objective is to uplift rural communities through access to education and digital learning. Rhino Africa invests in this organisation through donations or endangered animal adoption for example.
Wildlife Act
Rhino Africa has been a sponsor of Wildlife Act since 2012, an organisation which works to protect endangered species such as the painted dog and the black rhinoceros, and tries to bring them back from the brink of extinction. For example, they have collared and monitored 50% of the painted dog population in South Africa.
Challenge4ACause & Save the Rhino Trust
In 2009, Rhino Africa organised the first Challenge4ACause event in Damaraland, Namibia in a bid to raise money for the Save The Rhino Trust and other charities. It became an annual event where teams of riders from around the world tackle the epic 6-day, 330km challenge in the extreme desert conditions of isolated Damaraland. The ride is now an annual event and each year raises over one million South African rand for the chosen charities.
