Career
Hoagenson was born in St. Louis to a family of farmers and union workers. As a child, her family moved to Warrensburg after her father returned from serving in the Vietnam War. At 18 years old she moved to Columbia, where she earned her bachelor of arts in English at Missouri State University. Eventually she found her career in small business marketing and development. Having always wanted to start her own small business. In 2003, Hoagenson created Columbia Marketplace Magazine and Jefferson City Marketplace Magazine in 2004. In early 2018, she announced she would be running for Missouri's 4th congressional district to unseat current seat holder Vicky Hartzler and run against fellow democrat Hallie J Thompson for the democratic primary election on August 7, 2018. She won the primary and would advance on to the general election in which she lost. Hoagenson has expressed interest in running again for the Missouri’s 4th congressional district in the near future and if not, for a local or state office.
Political views
Hoagenson believes in House Cleaning Reforms and to reform on campaign finances, lobbying reform, redistricting reform to get the corruption out of our government. She wants to ensure every American has access to quality healthcare and ensure anyone working 40 hours per week can make a living for their family. She views Cheri Bustos as an inspiration for her political career due to her leadership and hardworking capabilities.
As stated by Hoagenson, “I have the ability to build teams, lead and work with others. I also have the ability to stand up as a minority opinion when needed. That I enhanced the lives of Missourians, bringing quality healthcare, education, industry, infrastructure. If we don't reform our government to get money out we will continue to have a polarized congress that can't effectively legislate for the people. We have a handful of states successfully redistricting. I'd favor studying their methods and implementing the most neutral...in whatever role I could best serve the American people. I feel that my background and experience are a good fit for the district, and I think my personal disposition is good for representing us in Congress.”
Personal life
Hoagenson is a single mother of three children (Alica, Eric, and Jenna). Alicia is currently studying in biomedical engineering at Missouri State University-Columbia and both Eric and Jenna are high schoolers.
