RenderX, Inc is a software development company that provides standards-based software products, used for typeset-quality electronic and print output of business content. RenderX provides tools - from pre-built applications to integration kits - to solve various business needs of getting XML content into printable formats such as PDF, PostScript and AFP. RenderX has provided many valuable services to the XSL-FO community.
Based on patented XML to PDF technology, RenderX products are used in three technical markets: data reporting, dynamic publishing and traditional publishing of products such as user guides, manuals and books. RenderX software can be integrated with Oracle database and SAP for generation of database reports and transactional documents assembled from multiple sources. Many customers also use RenderX software for Transpromo marketing. RenderX is a participant of W3C organization. RenderX’s products fully confirm to W3C Recommendation on XSL-FO, version 1.0 and W3C Recommendation on Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) was formatted by RenderX XEP from the XML source from the W3C Web site. Since 2000 RenderX’s products have been tested on compliance with W3C XSL-FO specification.

XSL-FO formatting engine XEP
The main RenderX's product is a Java-based XSL FO formatting engine called XEP.
As Dave Pawson describes, "RenderX XEP Formatter is an engine that converts XSL-FO documents to printable form (PDF or PostScript)...Its command-line interface is convenient, and it has good error reporting. XEP is written in Java and runs on any system that supports Java 2 (JDK/JRE 1.1.8) and above."
XEP conforms to Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), a W3C recommendation. It also supports a subset of the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG).
RenderX XEP is available for free trial download and is free for academic and personal use. XEP has been recommended by Michael Morrison, an author of books on XML, for those who would like to begin experimenting with XSL-FO.
Docbench is a software solution for documentation authors and stylesheets designers based on <oXygen/> XML editor and RenderX XEP.

VisualXSL is a GUI-based designer for writing XSL stylesheets for use with RenderX XEP and DocFactory.
DiType makes better type than a human typesetter would and produces layouts that would otherwise require a lot of tedious trial-and-error work. The architecture of DiType is based on experience gathered during the lifetime of XEP and uses open technologies and protocols. The heart of DiType is XSL FO rendering engine, accompanied by input format converters and output generators.
DocuType is a content management and publishing system based on a combination of RenderX's next generation formatting engine, DiType, and the Wikimedia Foundation's MediaWiki Server.
WikiType is an online application which converts articles and WikiBooks into PDF. It is designed to create e-books and ready-for-print documents from online MediaWiki content.
