Remember The 13th Hoax

Remember The 13th was an Internet hoax website that launched on October 3rd, 2013. The site purported that it had discovered something that will "Shake The Earth" and implied that it was affiliated with NASA. Upon announcement of its planned launch several media sites began discussing the potential discovery and many theorized that it was viral marketing for a movie or video game. On October 6, 2013 the site officially launched its material, which was a music video.
The website and associated music video has been mentioned on Alex Boese's Museum of Hoaxes.
History
The website domain for Remember The 13th was registered through Name Cheap on October 1st, 2013. The website was launched shortly thereafter with a space-themed design. The website was first shared on October 3, 2013, upon which point various sites began to report on the website. The video has received over one million views on YouTube as of October 8th, 2013.
Remember The 13th initially planned to release the promised content on November 13, 2013, but moved up the release date due to a "change of plans". On October 5th the site was updated with a link that redirected visitors to a YouTube video, Purple Ninja by European Pop artist Beeki Vendi. The website owners later acknowleged that they had used the marketing company SocialVEVO as a way of promoting the website and video.
Prior to the video's release, some expressed concern that the website was a phishing scam.
