History The band was formed in 2006 by Kevin McGoldrick and Jeff Grey in San Diego, California. McGoldrick was a singer/songwriter originally from Montreal, Canada and Grey, a singer/songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. Both had pursued various solo projects prior to forming Red Sea Station.
In July of 2006 Grey was struck by a tree and killed during a severe thunderstorm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Left with an unfinished project, McGoldrick moved to Cairo, Egypt and nearly abandoned the project. With the help of Zach Eichenhorn (Adam's Castle, Gold & Gunmetal) and Portland-based songwriter Justin Potts the project was salvaged.
