Red Canyon fire

The Red Canyon fire is a current wildfire burning in Colorado. The fire started August 12 in the afternoon and was first reported at 1:00 PM. The fire has gained attention due to its proximity to Glenwood Springs which at times has been as close as two and half miles. The blaze has forced the evacuation of a subdivision and pre-evacuation alerts at other subdivisions. The fire has not however destroyed any man made structures. The Red Canyon fire is currently burning in juniper-pinyon forest in steep and deep fuel terrain. The fire continued to burn and grew to 250 acres. On the north side, terrain gave firefighters an upper hand at the blaze was 10% contained on the side. The south side is still burning uncontrolled. The fire has mainly been on the other side of a ridge and only slight smoke seen in Glenwood due to the southern winds. Multiple slurry bombers have also been attacking the area.
