Realms of Adventure

Realms of Adventure is a live action role playing game, currently based in Sparta Township, New Jersey. Games take place at Camp SAC North.
Overview
Realms of Adventure uses a medieval fantasy setting. Many traditional fantasy elements are present, including races such as Elves, Dwarves, and Fae. The game is played by role playing a character over the course of a weekend. Martial combat is simulated using a boffer combat system, while magic is represented by stating magical effects out loud and striking the intended target with a tied packet filled with bird seed.
The game takes place at large camp sites, with many modern day amenities often being removed or hidden during game hours to aid in the immersion of the setting. Role players are made up of players, who play a single character the entire weekend, and cast member, who play multiple roles including monsters to challenge the players.
The game is considered WYSIWYG, with most in-game events being represented by props, masks, or effects.
History
Realms of Adventure first premiered its rule set publicly at the science fiction convention I-CON in 2003, and began its first season later that year. Originally, events took place in Wading River, NY, with the majority of the player base being drawn from Long Island. Realms of Adventure has been featured multiple times in the I-CON Newsletter.
In 2006, the game moved to a larger site with more LARP-friendly accommodations in Sparta Township, New Jersey. The current camp site has accommodations for up to one-hundred people.
Realms of Adventure is a participant in the LARP Network.
Game
The game itself takes place in the small town of New Calendale of the Twin Kingdoms in the world of Adraveth. The setting includes a varied magic system with various schools of magic for arcane casters, and different Deities to choose for divine casters. There are both traditional and non-traditional character classes, including the Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Monk, Mage, Merchant-Artisan, Shaman and Scholar.
Attendees of the game begin by choosing a race and a class, and are often led into town on their first night through an adventure of some sort, called a module. Modules run for other players as well; these are short adventures that take place with small groups of people, usually away from the main area of the town.
One important feature of the game is its hidden skills and spells. Players who enter the game do not see the full list of skills or spells available to them, and must learn of them from other people they make contact with in game before purchasing them for their character to use. The game uses character point-based advancement rather than a traditional level system.
