Randy Boyd Thompson

Randy Boyd Thompson (born September 26, 1985) is an American dirt track race car driver. Thompson drives the K3 race car for RBT Motorsports. He was considered one of the top racers on the dirt track circuit from 2005-2009 before sustaining a traumatic shoulder injury that kept him off of the track until January 2010.
Early life
Randy Boyd was born in Meridian, Mississippi to Ms. Kim Boyd and Mr. Randy Earl Thompson. He grew up in nearby Enondale, Mississippi where he grew to love all things outdoors. In his youth Thompson showed an immediate propensity for athletics, especially soccer. He attended Calvary Christian School from K-4 to 6th grade before transferring to Lamar School. At Lamer School Randy Boyd excelled in football, soccer, and baseball (making the All-State teams in the latter two sports). Not only was Thompson an athletic phenom, he also excelled in academics. At Lamar School he was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, and a member of the high school fraternity Phi Kappa. However, nothing on a playing field or in a classroom could match Randy Boyd's passion for race car driving.
Early Adulthood
Following graduation from Lamar School Randy Boyd decided to seek higher education at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. Although Thompson began college with aspirations to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering these first few years of higher education proved to be the most trying time of his life. An immediate "natural" on the dirt tracks across the Southeastern United States Thompson met this adversity with some his most successful years on the dirt track. However, he continued to face obstructions that hindered his educational endeavors during this period. By his sophomore year of college Randy Boyd had lost interest in his schoolwork, and his passion for race car driving caused him to leave school and move back to Meridian to pursue it full-time.
During this period Randy Boyd won numerous races across the nation, including the: Hurricane 30, Budweiser 50, and James King Memorial Cup. Pressured by his parents and constantly reminded of his sole life failure, Randy Boyd finally decided to return to school in the Fall of 2007 at the University of Mississippi. Motivated by his success in the dirt track circuit, Thompson knew he could reconcile his past futility in the classroom. From 2007 to 2009 Randy Boyd pursued his education in mechanical engineering with vigor while remaining one of the most recognized drivers in the dirt track circuit. In early 2009 he sustained a shoulder injury that kept him off of the tracks until early 2010.
