Random Acts of Music is a cable TV program airing on Time Warner Cable in the Northeast Ohio market, including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Erie, PA. While highlighting live acoustic performances by local talent, artists from out-of-state are welcome to audition. The show has featured prominent performers from Nashville and Toronto, and early-career performances from Kate Voegele, Kelly Sweet, and Augustana. Author and music fan Joe Clifford Faust was a freelance producer for the program between 2001 and 2008. History Random Acts of Music was created by musician and videographer Henry J. Konczak ("Henry J") in 2001. Konczak spent thirty years in the music business, part of it opening for acts such as Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton and Bob Seger. Format Random Acts of Music bills itself as "By musicians, for musicians." Early episodes of the program were a mix of interviews, music talk, and unplugged performances by the guest acts. As the years progressed the format became leaner and tighter, moving toward the song/interview/song format it is known for today. While larger ensembles or keyboard players occasionally appear on the show, the focus remains on solo singer-songwriters performing on acoustic guitar. Konczak has long been interested in encouraging people to learn to express themselves through music. He is quoted as saying, “Our goal is to inspire viewers to play the guitar and be inspired by the artists. Get a guitar, learn to play it and write us a song.” Toward that end, in 2008 Random Acts of Music began to feature music lessons from various area musicians. In 2009/2010, the program held a songwriting contest, the only requirement of which was that the phrase "Random Acts" appear somewhere in the lyrics. Streetsboro, OH singer-songwriter Desiree Boardwine won first prize, a music video produced by Konczak's company.
