Ramakapa is a village in Limpopo. In this village the lived Pedi people led by a Chief Makapa. They were forcibly removed from this land by the Group areas act and were forced to find refuge in neighbouring villages. They are currently in the process of applying to have their land returned to them by the new democratic government of South Africa. The Ramapaka village is a tribe of about five thousand people. The name of the tribe is traced back five generation when the Pedi moved north and took refuge with Ramapulana. The chief “Thulare a Morwamothse” granted the land to the Ramapak tribe in around 1800’s. In the late 1960 the tribe was forcefully removed from their land by the then South African government apartheid laws. The current tribe are in a process of reclaiming their land back via the South African Land reform program.
