Raj Kakra

Raj Kakra (born 1985) is an Indian Punjabi singer, lyricist and actor. He has written and performed numerous romantic and socially-conscious songs, and has appeared in several Punjabi-language films depicting key events in Punjab’s modern history.
Early life and career
Raj Kakra was born in the village Kakra, Sangrur, Punjab. He completed his schooling locally before moving into Punjab’s music industry. His upbringing in rural Punjab and awareness of the region’s social issues have strongly influenced both his songwriting and his on-screen roles.
Kakra began writing lyrics for other artists and quickly gained recognition for his romantic and narrative style. Over the years, he has penned hits such as “Dildaariyan,” “Dilbar,” “Tu Juda,” “Mirza,” “Mehboob” and “Punn Khat Lai,” many of which he has also recorded himself. His songs often address themes ranging from love and heartbreak to the social and political challenges faced by Punjabis, including reflections on the 1984 Sikh genocide.
