Ptp4l

ptp4l is an open source implementation of the Precision Time Protocol for Linux computers by the Linux PTP Project.
Description
ptp4l is a GPL licensed implementation of IEEE 1588-2008. The development was started in 2011 by Richard Cochran. The implementation is based on the infrastructure for PTP Hardware Clocks (PHC) that was introduced with Linux kernel version 3.0. Both software and hardware timestamping on various devices are supported.
Supported Features
ptp4l currently supports
* Hardware and software time stamping.
* Linux PTP Hardware Clock (PHC) subsystem, and
* synchronizing the system clock to it.
* Boundary Clock and Ordinary Clock.
* IEEE 802.1AS-2011 in the role of end station.
* Transport over UDP/IPv4, UDP/IPv6, and raw Ethernet (Layer 2 and VLAN).
* Reading out of the data sets via management messages.
* Path trace TLV.
