Prosa Mutante is a cycle of literary experiences and arts collective born in January 2013 in the city of Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) from the mind of Nicolás Alcetegaray. The event has been running continuously for 2 years and more than 130 shows. The Prosa Mutante performs every Thursday from 20 to 23 hours at Piano Bar (Moreno 3359, Mar del Plata). Piano Bar is a local bar that opens its doors and stage to every artist who needs a space to show their production without charging them to perform. Their manifesto declares, “The PROSA MUTANTE is a cycle of literary experiences in which poetry mutates into alternative literary experiences thus welcoming illustrated poetry, photographic poetry, visual poetry and all other poetry manifestations. This event is open to everyone. There are no requisites to participate, just show up with you own text. Live narrative poetry and contemporary poetry. We support literary productions, emerging literature, fanzines and every type of mutant poetic performance. In each event, guests’ writers will be called to read and in between the readings there will be guest musicians, visual performances, art interventions and some mutant surprise. Moreover, if you come and you want to share your texts, you just do it! We invite you to be a part of this! The PROSA MUTANTE and its mutant allies’.” The open-mindedness of the event and of its creator has make that the event mutated into a multidisciplinary arts collective of which artist living in and out of Mar del Plata of all ages, styles and origins participate. Poets, writers, painters, dancers, actors and actresses, photographers, musicians, sculptors, and other local and foreign artists have a dynamic space in which artistic expression is the law. This show that mutates according to its participants each Thursday was born on 10 January 2013. Since its birthday, the Prosa Mutante has not been interrupted. The Prosa Mutante is born because Alcetegaray understood that until its creation there were no local spaces in which a wide range of young artist could express themselves and show their art. One of its main and most important features is that the Prosa Mutante is free; in fact the event is made on the basis of the effort of its organizers Nicolás Alcetegaray, Duque Blanco (Javier Moreno) and Juan Miguel Idiazabal. Nevertheless, as the event happens in a bar -Piano Bar- people usually have something to drink and eat while they enjoy the night and the varied performances. Another of its interesting characteristics is the different names and the posters for each Thursday gathering. Nicolás Alcetegaray designs all the posters for each Thursday; this includes the posters for the event and for each participant who performs each week. Due to the amount of posters created by Alcetegaray, he has opened a Tumblr account for anyone to discover the Prosa Mutante’s productions. Besides, a YouTube channel called TV Mutante has been opened so that anyone can watch some of the videos shot during the different events. Duque Blanco, Piano Bar’s owner, apart from borrowing the bar without charging anything helps to discover bands and sets the music between performances. Around mid-2013, the writer Juan Miguel Idiazabal joined the organization and now helps with inviting the artists, poster designing and hosting the event.
