Property Guardians

Property Guardians is a UK based property management scheme founded in 2012, whereby people are granted accommodation within a property in exchange for keeping the property under observation and in good condition. It provides property owners with a cheaper alternative to private security, and affordable housing stock for key-workers and young professionals.
History
Property guardianship schemes emerged as viable housing solution in the early 2010s, against a backdrop of rising rents and empty properties in UK cities. This had led many working professionals to being unable to afford rents or buy a home. In 2017, there were over 600,000 empty homes in the UK, of which more than 205,000 had been left unoccupied for six months or more. By bringing empty properties back into use using the property guardian scheme, property owners receive flexible and cost-effective security for their voids, communities avoid the blight that empty homes cause, and key-workers get access to affordable housing.
Media coverage
Property guardianship has been the subject of media attention, with outlets including the BBC, The Independent and Daily Telegraph writing about its growth in recent years.
