Professional Reputation Management

"Professional Reputation Management" is the science of managing a professional person's reputation to generate sustainable and tangible benefits for the individual and/or the organisation that employs them. This can include a number of techniques including personal PR, Personal branding, Public speaking, Lecturing and the overall development of a public profile and a set of skills that will meet and exceed the expectations of a specifically defined audience. This target audience is likely to include a mix of Customers, Peers and Paymasters.

The measure of an individual's professional ability, potential or earnings potential has been extended over time to include:

These criteria form the basis of an indivudal's ability to perform a specific task, job or function effectively. As such they also form the basis of many candidate selection procedures and most career development and . These are all designed to develop professional potential and talent.
Whilst reputation could always have been said to be a factor of one's professional standing, the advent of the internet and the growth of professional networking sites has brought everyone the ability to manage their professional standing and significantly extend reach using digital mediums. This can also have negative consequences and has seen the advent of a number of brand reputation monitoring tools that can electronically scour the web and the media for mentions of a brand or individual.
