Prasanna Ernest

Prasanna Ernest is the Mayor of the Kollam Municipal Corporation.
Early Life
Prasanna Ernest was born in 1964 to T. P. Varghese and Mary Varghese at Kuttivattom Puthen Kalikkal House in Chavara, Kollam district. She has one brother (Prakash P. V.). In 1987, she earned a degree in Economics from Fatima Mata National College, Kollam.
Her husband, X. Ernest, is a member of the Kollam District Secretariat.
Works and Contributions
As Mayor of the Kollam Municipal Corporation, Prasanna Ernest implemented significant initiatives, including the introduction of a decentralized waste management system, which improved sanitation across the city. She spearheaded the modernization of healthcare services by launching eHealth initiatives, enhancing medical accessibility for underserved communities.
Her efforts to improve public transport included upgrading bus terminals and ensuring last-mile connectivity through public-private partnerships. Prasanna also promoted women's empowerment by introducing skill development programs that enabled thousands of women to secure employment.
Additionally, she led the restoration of the historic into a cultural museum, preserving the city’s heritage. Her tenure is marked by initiatives that significantly contributed to Kollam's development.
