Pot bellied yacht terrier

Pot Bellied Yacht Terrier

The pot-bellied yacht terrier is an unknown variation of the Wire Fox Terrier. They were bred from a single foundation dog, named Emily, and were bred by the owners of Emily. The only known litter of PBYTs were out of Emily. There were seven puppies, four females and three males. It is unknown weather any of these offspring were ever bred, so it is likely that there are only eight PBYTs in exeistance.

Conformation

As the name explains, all PBYTs have round, flabby, or very filled out stomaches. Their head are out of proportioned to the rest of their bodies, appearing to big during puppyhood, and as they become adult dogs, the'r heads appear too small. Like their ancestors, their tails are docked soon after birth, but they are docked slightly shorter than fox terriers. Their tails are short, but very strong and sturdy, enough so that their hind half can be lifted off the ground by their tails, thus being used as a convenient handle when a handler is unable to access a collar or scruff.
It is considered very desirable, and intended, for a PBYT to have one ear upright . As this is a trademark characteristic of the foundation dog, Emily.
"One ear to the sky, another to the ground; these dogs will not miss anything worth chasing," quotes anonymous owner of Emily. It is quite true, and a PBYT will not pass up anything worth chasing.
As boating dogs, the PBYTs also have webbed paws.

Personality/Behavior

PBYTs are peculiar dogs. The males tend to be very stupid, but in return, are very loving, and their stupidity makes them loveable . The females, however, tend to live up to their title. They are very intelligent, and VERY dominating, of other dogs and humans alike and know how to get what they want. PBYTs are not aware of the fact that they are inferior to their masters. They believe that they are in charge, and that the humans live for them. They will walk across you, and demand attention as they please. They figure out which human is the biggest succer, and will aim to take contol of them. Although they will try to dominate the entire family, they usually focus on one person, usually either the biggest, of the one that seems to be in charge. They may play dumb, or innocent, and they are masters at looking cute, but do not be fooled, the lights are on, and there's somebody at home working...

History

Emily was a misfit of a Wire Fox Terrier. Her owners found her on sale at an unknown pet store. She was "getting too old, and wasn't as cute as the other puppies" so her price was very low. But these people didn't care, and got her anyway. Soon after bringing her home, the owners realized what they had done. Emily was a needy, spoiled, dominant little dog. but she was great with kids and other people. So they continued their plans of breeding. Hoping that she would pass on her exceptional, show-quality markings. They found a stud, another misfit Wire Fox Terrier named Dickie. Dickie had a short back, a long face, and long legs, and bad markings, as he was almost all white, but he had a great personailty, so he was bred with Emily. Emily was registered at AKC under Emily Dickins Rightmire.
Emily had seven puppies, including a runt, Maggie. Aside from Maggie there were the other females: May , Amber , and Millie. May came out almost identicle to her father, with long legs, and small, down perked ears, so she is not considered a very good specimen of the PBYT. There were three males: Snicket , Dickens (for his mother) , and Frankie. Snicket is considered the best example of the breed. None of the puppies had an up ear, but Snicket came close, with crooked ears, as one stuck up halfway. He was also very chubby and round, with short legs and a short tail, like Emily. And as the male PBYT specifies, he was incredibly stupid, and was a very loving dog.
The puppies scattered throught coastal Orang County.
It is believed that Emily is the only one really still used as a boating dog, but she does so well, and accompanies her owners to Catalina Island often, mostly at Two Harbors, were she can be found occasionally.
