Postmodern Buddhism

Postmodern Buddhism is simply a syncretic and eclectic approach to or interpretation of Buddhism that is underpinned by the philosophies of postmodernism. Postmodern interpretations of Buddhism, and versions of Buddhism that can be defined or connected to postmodern religion, are increasingly popular in the Western world. In Eastern countries, Buddhism is associated with the eclecticism and syncretism which can also be seen in postmodern approaches to religion.
Syncretism occurs among the Eastern religions; for example, Buddhism is practiced by adherents alongside many other religious traditions, including Taoism, Confucianism, Shinto, traditional religions, shamanism, and animism, in regions such as East and Southeast Asia.
