Portland Women March Against Hate

The Portland Women March Against Hate was a demonstration held at Director Park in Portland, Oregon, on December 3, 2016. Nearly 1,000 people attended the protest, as expected, which was held in conjunction with the Seattle Women March Against Hate in Volunteer Park. The event was described as a "demonstration against hate" and attended by people wanting to support women's rights and show opposition to then President-elect Donald Trump.

The event's Facebook page said, "We will stand together to show the world that misogyny, misogynoir, racism, xenophobia, transmisogyny, transphobia, and hate of any kind is not welcome in this city. Together women will not be bullied by anyone--not even the next president... Important: People of all races, ethnicities, sizes, gender, religions, sexuality, and abilities are highly encouraged to attend this peaceful event."
The rally began with a performance by the Fallen Angel Choir, who sang "remastered" Christmas carols criticizing Trump and celebrating women and the LGBT community.<ref nameBrettman/><ref nameKATU/> Speakers included then Portland Commissioner-elect Chloe Eudaly, who encouraged women to get involved in government,<ref name=KATU/> Portland Community College's multicultural center coordinator Rut Martinez-Alicea, clean air activist Mary Peveto, former Portland Public Schools administrator and "Race Talks" founder Donna Maxey, and Rebekah Katherine Brewis, who serves as executive legal director of PDX Trans Pride.<ref nameTrump/> From Director Park, protestors marched south on Southwest Ninth Avenue, east on Salmon Street, north on Fourth Avenue, west on Oak Street, south on Broadway, then west on Taylor before returning to the park.<ref nameTrump/> The peaceful one-mile march began around 2:30pm, escorted by the Portland Police Bureau.<ref nameKATU/><ref nameKOIN/>
