Pork Stories

Pork Stories is a collection of short stories written in 2008 based on allegedly true events, usually centered around sex, romance, travel, alcohol, transsexuals, bad dancing and other common settings for male blunder. The term Pork Stories refers to the collection of stories itself, as well as the actual author. Pork Stories claims the tagline: “The Steamiest Literature on the Web,” and on its website describes its work as “literature that celebrates the inadequacies of the modern man.”

Fratire

While Pork Stories claims it is not fratire, most critics and readers have come to regard it as a core constituent of the genre. Pork Stories fits squarely into Tucker Max’s description of fratire in a 2006 Huffington Post interview; “Fratire is, at its essence, nothing more than men writing about being men in an honest and authentic way.”

Controversy

In contradiction to other fratire writers, including Tucker Max, Neil Strauss and Maddox, Pork Stories has not drawn criticism for misogynistic and abrasive attitudes towards women and, rather, typically portrays the male protagonist as the “butt” of the joke and the woman protagonist as the smart, attractive, more mature female character archetype. Also in contradiction to other fratire writers, Pork Stories employs a more traditional fiction writing style, bearing notable similarity to authors such as Nick Hornby and Alex Garland, who in fact are both mentioned on Pork Stories’ MySpace page. Pork Stories does, however, focus heavily on alcohol and sexual themes much like other fratire writers.

Work

All of Pork Stories’ work embraces a satirical take on nightlife, self-deprecating humor and a male protagonist typically displaying childish, underdeveloped social skills. As of early 2008, Pork Stories scribed 6 short stories including “The Fart,” “Las Vegas,” “Home Life,” “Spain,” “The Awakening,” and “Pink or Blue.” The cover of Pork Stories’ untitled book due in 2009 is an image of a baby male.
