Please Be Quiet

Please Be Quiet is an Indonesian short film released on December 18, 2021 and directed by William Adiguna. The film tells the story of a female employee who witnessed an inappropriate incident by her boss against her co-workers, but she was forced to keep her mouth shut due to circumstances.
Synopsis
The film begins with Putri and Sarah who are working late at the office. Putri invites Sarah to go home together, so she can do her homework while watching a popular Korean drama. However, her desire was crushed because, not long after, Mr. Benny, their boss, came and gave Putri an additional task. Initially, Putri refused the additional work because she was still working on other tasks. Sarah, being a good friend, offered to help with the extra task. However, Mr. Benny instead ordered Sarah to do Putri's old job, while Putri would do the additional task together with him. The details regarding the additional work needed to be discussed further, so Sarah chose to go home first.
On the way home, Sarah remembered that Putri's assignment that she had to do was left behind at the office, so Sarah had to go back to the office to pick it up. When she came there, she accidentally saw and heard Mr. Benny offer the position of Junior Manager to Putri on the condition that Putri would go home with him. Slowly, Mr. Benny began to approach Putri. In a state of panic, Putri immediately refused and left the room. Sarah, who managed to hide and watch the conversation, looked scared.
The next day, Putri was late for work. Arriving at work, Putri looked quiet. Sarah was surprised to see this and asked Putri. However, Putri did not feel the same way that Sarah assumed she felt. Sarah turned to other co workers, but to no avail, only Sarah could see that something was troubling Putri. Sarah then tried to talk to Putri about what she saw and wanted to help her. But Putri refused Sarah’s help, telling her she was fine.
The next day, Sarah tried to confront Mr. Benny about what happened that night with Putri. Sarah threatened to report Mr. Benny if she was not made Junior Manager, as Mr. Benny promised Putri. Things went almost according to what Sarah wanted, but Mr. Benny made an argument that made Sarah fall silent. In the end, Sarah returned to the table and didn’t say a word. Sarah and Putri stared at each other for a moment, then Sarah turned back to her workplace and stared at the camera.

Moral
Please Be Quiet is told from the perspective of a witness to a sexual harassment case in the office. This film shows the difficulties faced by victims and witnesses of abuse, if victims and witnesses do not have power over the perpetrators. In addition, the last scene of Sarah staring at the camera with her mouth closed, indicates that the purpose of the film is to ask the audience, who also witnessed the abuse case, what they would do after seeing this. Will they remain silent like Sarah and Putri did? Or will they want to act? If they wanted to act, what would they do?
The film reminds the audience to always be aware of cases of sexual harassment happening around us.
