REPUBLIC OF PIJANETS

After the Russian-Turkish War in 1878, in Pijanec - Delchevo in Eastern Macedonia was created so-called Pijanechka Republic. Not satisfied with the developments on the Macedonian question, Duke Ilya Markov Maleshevski (Dedo Iljo Maleshevski) in collaboration with other Macedonian commander: George Pulevski Grigor Ognenov, George Cochov, Kote Karchev, Dimitar Trifunov Tsvetkov Georgi Antonov disarmed bashibozuc's gangs in villages south of Kyustendil, and no clashes occupied area Pijanec.
           This action started on 20 January 1878. (old style). Because it was known that the Turkish military authorities withdrew from Pijanec and remained only bashibozuc's gangs Ilya Maleshevski decided to disarm, without permission of the Russian authorities in Kyustendil. The place Vetran's meadows he met with influential buljukbasha Mustafa Brze from village of Gabrovo. It was agreed that Muslim dignitaries from Pijanec villages (12-14 in number) within three days to collect weapons and surrender of his company in Lower Crkvenec where its headquarters are located. The same was done without any resistance, and is subjugated and famous pijanets ajduk Suljo.
           In this liberating action was include Dimitar Georgiev Pop Berovski. These bands joined about 150 armed men, made a tour of the village which was convinced people in their liberation intentions. Also been established - rebel government composed of rebel militias village elders, temporary police guard (12 people) and a committee consisting of the leaders: Ivancho Popov Ikonomov from Tsarevo Selo - President, Angel S. Chinev, Nikola Todorov, Mitso Kiselicki, Mane Arsov, Manuel Pop Kostadinov, Angel N. Chorbadzhiski Duty N. Bojadzhijata, Amit Cadiz and Mola Mehmed.
           In the second half of February it was reported that Pijanec remains under Turkish rule, and detachments Ilya Maleshevski and Dimitar Berovski were ordered to retreat in Kyustendil. However, the established power in Pijanec continued to exist until 29 March 1878. Then the costumers from market-place returning from Vinnitsa brought news that the from Kocani to Tsarevo village comes numerous Turkish army composed of several Thabourey (battalions) with four mountain guns and 150 cavalry. This caused fear and panic among the Christian population in Pijanec villages, which quickly began to run away (about 160 families) to Kyustendil. One of the refugees have returned to the beginning of winter and others settled in Turkey empty houses in Kyustendil, Sofia and Lovech (today in Bulgaria).
           Turkish army arrived in Tsarevo Village on March 30, 1878. To the Macedonian - Christian population was sent a statement that will not happen if nothing back in their homes. Although it was accepted with confidence, however later it was shown that the Turkish authorities really made no reprisals against the Macedonian population.
