Pickles Park (a working name selected by the citizen-planners of this developing dog park) claims to be the first "citizen-planner" park development in Queens, New York City. The site, at the south-west corner of 35th Avenue and 69th Street in Jackson Heights, was proposed in October 2006 by a group of community residents for inclusion in 's . The Community Board approved the proposal for inclusion in that budget and local residents and officials have been working toward making it a reality.
The significance of Pickles Park lies in its role as a demonstration project for resident use of Internet resources such as wikis, , wikimapia, email, lists, and calendars, as resources that enable residents to participate in what was formerly the exclusive realm of the professional planner. This change in the availability of planning and organizing resources will likely transform the role of the urban planner from that of an expert to an expert/facilitator. The conversation about a changed role of this sort has been going on for years within the planning community. Today's Internet enabled planning tools promises to change the dynamic in favor of expert/facilitator.
