Phat Policeman

PDF Print E-mail
Phat Policeman is a Milton Keynes born MC who entered the UK hip hop scene in 1976. He started out as a member of the Party Posse, one of the UK's first home grown hip hop acts who were highly influential in the development of the genre. 'Fatty P' has had one of the longest and most respected careers in UK hip hop. Also known as da riddim assualta, he cites the jazz fusion he heard while growing up as a second-generation Icelandic immigrant as an influence on his heavy music.

He has produced 2 albums, both of which have enjoyed cult if not commercial success. The first was the 1990 top 40 charter "Bondsville", which was full of songs with political overtones and followed the story of a fictional drunk called David, supposedly based on a modern day Lloyd-George. His second album was the less successful "Prince-Patrol", making an impact only in the Slovenian charts, where the Policeman enjoys spending most of his summers in recent years. Because of his niche apeal, his albums are rarely available, and regularly go for above RRP

Although he has never truly reached the zenith of hip-hop, he has never expressed disappointment at this.

Current activities

Phat Policeman is currently working closely with local schools in Milton Keynes, helping youths to write and produce their own music in an attempt to lure them into one of the many gangs in the United Kingdom. This work has been criticised by a number of organisation, most of whom have now been shot by Phat Policeman's growing group of fanatical followers.
