Petrika Troja

Petrika Troja is an Albanian doctor and microbiologist.
Biography
Dr. Troja graduated from the State University of Tirana Faculty of Medicine in 1967. From 1971-72, he underwent a specialization in the field of Electronic Microscopy in Shanghai, China.
Dr. Troja started his career at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (today known as the Institute of Health) in Tirana, where he specialized in microbiology and worked for three years in the sector of infective intestinal diseases, under the guidance of microbiologist Dr. Stefan Cilka.
Dr. Troja continued at the Faculty of Medicine (Infective Diseases Department) at the University of Tirana, from 1970 until 1993, as a professor of microbiology. He taught general medicine to dentistry and pharmacy students and instructed new microbiology doctors.
In 1981 Dr. Troja was appointed to the Faculty of General Medicine to oversee all microbiology specializations at the national level. From then until 1993, Dr. Troja contributed to the development of post university curricula in fields related to microbiology.
During his tenure as a professor, Dr. Troja has offered a special contribution towards the completion of scientific and medical tests in the fields of Microbiology, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and General Medicine. In 1977, Dr. Troja was selected amongst his colleagues for his practical contribution of creating the first laboratory of microbiology in Albania able to detect the Hepatitis B virus.
He was awarded with the Candidate of Medical Sciences PhD in 1982. Dr. Troja expanded the range of his scientific research by including Hepatitis A, B, C and Delta in his research and development work at the laboratory.
In 1990 Dr. Troja studied at the Instituto Superiore di Sanita, in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Troja implemented and deployed a second microbiology laboratory at the Institute of Pediatrics in Tirana. This new laboratory engaged in research in a variety of microbiological fields, including parasitology, enteric bacteriology, airborne infectious diseases, and viral immunoserology. Dr. Troja managed twenty-six employees while acting as a director of the laboratory. Some of his notable employees included Dr. Arjana Tamburi, Dr.Mira Shuteriqi, and Dr. Mimosa Leci.
For his pedagogical contributions in the field of Microbiology, Dr. Troja was awarded the title Docent. At the end of 1992, Dr. Troja submitted the complete dossier towards the application for the professorship title, but never completed the process, instead moving to the United States at the end of 1993.
Dr. Troja currently works at the Microbiology Laboratories of two hospitals, Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center, both located in the Bronx, New York.
Works
Dr. Troja has authored or co-authored eight text books used at the Faculty of Medicine in Tirana, Albania. Dr. Troja is also co-author of more than fifty scientific studies, medical/scientific cross examinations, and medical/microbiological evaluations on behalf of many other microbiology doctors.
