Persian Student Association of UC Merced

The Persian Student Association of University of California- Merced (PSAUCM), also known as Persian Club, was founded in 2007 and is located in California, Merced.It is one of the oldest and largest association at UC Merced. PSAUCM is a student-governed, local organization that represents the concerns of Persian Culture. They have a membership of 65 diverse students base, that help pull of event's for the whole University. They have meetings for executive board members only every other week, were executives get to introduce their idea's for approval. Furthermore, there are general meetings every other week, which discussion of events and fund raising option are put on the table for review.
PSAUCM's action committees and interest groups help expose Persian students to information on subjects generally covered in traditional culture, and is the only major Persian Association on campus, that accepts no sponsorship or funding from any company at this time.

Events
Important Culture Events
* Norouz (Iranian/Persian New Year)
**Celebration of the start of spring ("Rejuvenation"). It starts on the first day of spring (also the first day of the Iranian Calendar year) and lasts for 13 days.
* Sizdah be dar (Nature Day)
**Persian Festival of "Joy and Solidarity". The 13th/last day of Nowruz celebration ("Getting rid of the thirteen!"). It is celebrated outdoors along with the beauty of nature.
* Jashn-e-Tirgan (Water Festival)
**Festival of Mehr (or Mihr). A day of "Thanksgiving".
* Jashn-e-Sadeh (Fire Festival)
**A mid-winter feast to honor fire and to "defeat the forces of darkness, frost and cold".
* Jashn-e-Mehregan (Autumn Festival)
**The turning point. End of the longest night (darkness) of the year, and beginning of growing of the days (Lights). A celebration of Good over Evil.
* Shab-e-Yalda (Winter Feast)
**Longest night of the year
* Chaharshanbe Suri
**Festival of Fire, Last Wednesday in the Iranian Calendar year. It marks the importance of the light over the darkness, arrival of spring and revival of nature.
