Per Bach Nissen

Per Bach Nissen (born April 29, 1967) is a Danish bass singer and principal at the Theater Augsburg, in Augsburg, Germany.

Childhood and early musical training
Nissen was born in Vejle, Denmark to a Danish mother and German father. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of Denmark in 1988, and had a career as a chef in San Francisco and Copenhagen, before making a career change.

In 1996 Nissen undertook a foundation course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales, where his primary teacher of voice was tenor John Mitchinson.

Nissen had no formal musical training in Denmark and while in Cardiff taught himself piano and sightreading. In 1999, Nissen moved to London to finish his studies at the Trinity College of Music under Iris Dell'Acqua and later at the Opera Studio of La Monnaie in Brussels.

He has subsequently been coached by Roger Vignoles, Philip Langridge and Harald Stamm.

Career

Nissen made his London opera debut at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Zuniga, Carmen in 2002.

He moved to Germany in 2002 and became a principal bass-baritone at Theater Vorpommern in Stralsund and Greifswald. He went on to join the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in Schwerin.

In 2007 he joined the the Theater Augsburg in Bavaria as principal bass.
