Pentastar Alignment

The Pentastar Alignment was a political conglomerate in the fictional Star Wars Expanded Universe.

After the Battle of Endor, the Galactic Empire fragmented into many warring factions. One of these factions, in the Outer Rim, would be pulled together by Grand Moff Ardus Kaine, who replaced Grand Moff Tarkin after Tarkin's death aboard the first Death Star. Specifically, Kaine used his personal Executor-class Super Star Destroyer Reaper for some none-too-subtle intimidation as a venue to hold talks with representatives of multiple star systems and five major Imperial corporations. The talks were successful, and the Pentastar Alignment was born. The Alignment held the allegiance of hundreds of planets, including the "Velcar Free Commerce Zone" (containing Capza, Entralla, and Bextar) and the worlds Jaemus and Criton's Point. An Empire-in-miniature, the Pentastar Alignment nevertheless differed in organization, as it was administratively split in two: "Order" and "Enforcement". Order comprised the Politorate, Insurrection, Judgment, and Protectorate branches - many Inquisitors would join the Order branch as "Great InQuestors of Judgement", including Jerec; Enforcement was simply the Pentastar Patrol police force (which would design, along with Kuat Drive Yards and Sienar Systems, the Enforcer-class picket ship).

The Alignment largely maintained an isolationist position, and sought to be on peaceful terms with all parties - this led to the New Republic reciprocating and largely leaving the Alignment alone; pirates and mercenaries such as the "Red Moon" would continue to harry the Alignment. Peace would not last, and the reborn Emperor with his Operation Shadow Hand, in the events of Dark Empire, would kill Kaine. This made it possible, 12/13 ABY, for Grand Admiral Pellaeon to take over the Alignment; Reaper then became Pellaeon's flagship, and immediately was the direct cause of Pellaeon's victory at the Battle of Orinda, outfighting the New Republic's Super Star Destroyer the Lusankya under the command of Wedge Antilles. A year later, with the Adumar and the Antemeridian Sectors in their "coalition", the Republic launched a fresh assault on the Imperial Remnant, which Pellaeon stopped only at the price of being forced to scuttle Reaper.
