Pedigree of Swedish monarchs

Monarchs who have reigned in Sweden seem, at first glance, to be from several separate dynasties which are not connected at all. However, genealogical research has published lineages of how they generally are interconnected, and the current royal family traces its ancestry back to each earlier dynasty.

Since the late 14th century, a measure-stick of high nobility in Sweden was kinship with Birgitta of Vadstena, St.Bridget of Sweden (whose own biological issue became extinct in 1411), and accordingly those Swedes who became Regents or were elected kings, more or less started to be her relatives (usually descended from her only surviving niece Ingeborg of Loholmen, Countess of Orkney).
