pChess is a pedagogical chess programme. It fills a niche in providing a clearly documented open-source chess programme for the Macintosh -- while at the same time, providing an aesthetically pleasing user interface with FEN copy/paste support -- which makes it convenient for playing chess by eMail. pChess is licensed under the GNU GPL, and comes complete with FutureBasic source code -- and is one of the few chess applications written in a modern dialect of BASIC. The hope is that the clearly commented source code will be of use for novice chess programmers. Other programming languages offer many chess engines for learning through source code inspection, such as: Tom Kerrigan's Simple Chess Program, Crafty by Robert Hyatt, and Fruit by Fabian Letouzey.
