Patrick M. Hickey

Patrick Merle Hickey (born July 11, 1950 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, United States), is an American martial artist. Hickey was an Eagle Scout and also received the American Legion of Citizenship award. He is currently ranked 9th Dan in International Kwanmukan Karate, 8th Dan US Ju-JItsu and 9th USA Jujitsu, and 8th Dan in Traditional Kodokan Judo and 9th Dan in Kwanmukan Ju-Jitsu. He began training in martial arts in the early 1970s, and has been actively participating in martial arts ever since.
Titles and positions
Hickey currently is the president of the USA Karate Federation, Director of the International Kwanmukan, President of the Central Taekwondo Association, Director of the World Taekwondo Changmookwan, a board member of the International Moy Ryu Karate-do Federation, a board member of the World Kobudokan Federation, Chairman of the USA Karate Senior Master's Caucus, on the advisory board of the United States Karatedo Kai, the chief Kwanmukan Instructor, chief Judo Instructor for Kwanmukan, and in 1981 Hickey was Inducted into the USA Karate Hall of Fame.
Personal achievements
Patrick M. Hickey began training with Mr. George E. Anderson when he was a graduate student at the University of Akron and already a black belt in karate. He received a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Akron. Hickey received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Thiel College. During his martial arts career, Hickey has assisted in the establishment of the referee certification program for the AAU Karate Program which developed into the USA Karate Federation, the USA Karate coaching certification program and the Junior Olympic Karate program. He has served as the national rules chairman, national referee certification chairman another positions. Hickey own his own dojo, Hickey Karate Center, located in Stow, Ohio. Hickey also published a book in May 1997 called Karate Techniques & Tactics Skills for Sparring and Self-defense. He also has produced articles such as Celebration of the Kwanmukan, and Soko Grandmaster Masaharu Sakimukai, which can be found online.
