The Paradise Curtain is a term used to describe the seperation on the Hawaiian islands between the haves and the have-nots, the rich and poor, corporate hotels and the Hawaiian slums, the thieves and the victems, etc. The Paradise Curtain is a "word play on the infamous Iron Curtain which separated communist and capitalist Europe ( )." It is also a word play on the Orange Curtain, a derogatory term used to describe the border between Orange County and Los Angeles County in California. The term Paradise Curtain was used first by a young pastor in Kahului, Hawaii, named Stephen Fussle who used the term to describe the difference between what people imagine Hawaii is like for their honeymoon or vacation experience, to what the realities are for the local Hawaiian's who struggle for their very existence.
