Paper Mario 3DS, or Paper Mario 4, is a console role-playing game announced at on the E3 website (June 2010) for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. It will be in 3D and 2D (3D opt-outable). The screenshots and reports confirm this Paper Mario will go back to its RPG roots and keep the turn-based battling of 1 and 2. As seen from the screen shots there will be no battle information on the top screen. Once again Mario will be followed by partners to aide him in battle, a feature returning with the turn based combat (seen with a chainchomp). Paper Mario 3DS hasn't been officially talked about because there was not enough time to fully announce every game at Nintendo's E3 2010. Many other games, such as Animal Crossing 3DS and Mario Kart 3DS, weren't announced either because of time problems. Paper Mario 3DS has been confirmed to be in production on the Nintendo E3 website. (June 2010) Paper Mario 3DS was demoed at the E3 event and Gamespot says that "The demonstration in Nintendo's booth was video only, but we took a peek to see what Mario's next adventure is going to look like." "Although the gameplay looks very similar to previous games, the visuals have seen an overhaul. The 3D effect is subtle compared to some of the more eye-popping games out there, but effective nonetheless. By and large, this looks like a typical 2D adventure, with Mario and most of the environment and enemies in the same form you've come to expect. However, every so often, some flashy effect demands your attention. If you jump underneath a hovering brick, you can see the pieces fly off in all directions; when a wiggling cuts across your path, it appears as if he's walking right off the screen; and during one segment, Mario triggered a switch that caused the background to disappear, and it's eerie shimmer looked cool in the 3D display. There's no word yet on when this will be released or what other features to expect, but it looks to carry on the proud Paper Mario tradition." They also report that it will be turn-based battling. [http://e3.g4tv.com/articles/71145/E3-2010-Paper-Mario-3DS-Preview/#ixzz0rAXOux6x G4TV] says, "The papercraft look didn’t exactly come out of the screen, but the contrast between the traditional cartoonish 3D Mario environments and the papercraft objects worked very well. Plus, Nintendo is clearly going to be playing tricks on you with the 3D. At one point, smashing a block prompted the wall behind Mario to sink back, revealing a new space to play in."
