Palinfreude

Palinfreude (derived from schadenfreude) is a humorous neologism describing the pleasure that liberal voters may have taken in incidents concerning Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin that may have damaged her party's standing in the polls. It may have been coined by Mark W Adams on 3 September 2008 on his blog Dispassionate Liberal It was used again on 9 September 2008 by Jonah Goldberg's blog The Corner in quoting a reader's characterization of Sarah Palin as a political land mine.

It was further popularized by Andrew Sullivan on his blog The Daily Dish after the 2008 Presidential election to express the emotion people felt in hearing negative reports from inside the John McCain campaign of Sarah Palin's qualifications to be Vice President of the United States. The term saw publication in The Guardian, a British newspaper, by November 8.
