Pakistan GIS is an initiative to promote GIS development in Pakistan. It is a web blog through which improved co-operation among GI-scientists, educators, GI professionals and students can be established. PakGIS works to promote research and innovation, better use of technology and providing knowledge and support for individuals using Geographic information Systems and science, and tends to provide GIS/RS data of Pakistan free of cost. History In 2009,Two Students from Department of City and Regional Planning, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore took initiative to establish a plate form for GIS/RS professional in Pakistan where they can access and share GIS data free of cost. With the professional background of Urban planning, Khydija Wakil and Muhammad Qadeer tried to find ways of how GIS and RS data can be created freely in Pakistan and how it can be used in various applications of urban management. INITIATION 2009 PAKGIS is going to be initiated by Planners' Resource Center which is the first and largest forum for urban planners in Pakistan to share a digital library of books, tutorials, satellite images, aerial photographs, scanned and digitized maps, and applications of GIS and open source GIS in Urban planning in Pakistan etc.
