Market Background
The market for Jewish Stock photography is relatively small - due to the numbers of the Jewish population in general - that are the essential buyer base of such photos. therefore a few previous start ups in that niche where not successful, and ceased operation. Therefore graphic designers that where looking for Jewish themed photos where forced to use the service of a private photographer every time. Jewish themed microstock was virtually non existent.
Launch
OtzarStock was launched in the spring of '08, it was called by the popular Haredi News site "Bechadrei chareidim" a revolution.
Photos
Photos are contributed by individual photographers that in turn receive a certain percentage of the money when a photo is purchased.
Unlike other major stock photo websites, photos on OtzarStock are purchased individually not via credit system. It has been debated which system is inferior.
Although it claims in its motto that its purpose is "adding a Jewish dimension to stock photography" The sites "contributor manual & guidelines" states that it accepts "other types of images with uniqueness, professionalism and creativity". Still, most photos on the site are about Judaism, and the men are wearing a Kippah (yarmulke) and women are modestly dressed.
Hebrew Fonts
OtzarStock also sells Hebrew Fonts, a practice not traditionally associated with stock photography.
