Operation Revenge (2022)

Operation Revenge was an operation carried out by Azerbaijan against the Armenian armed forces in Karabakh on August 3, 2022.

On the morning of August 3, members of the Armenian military in the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are stationed, began to allegedly fire at the positions of the Azerbaijani Army units located in the direction of the Lachin District. As a result, soldier Kazimov Anar Rustam, a military serviceman with a term of active military service, and his son died from a gunshot wound.
Around 3:00 p.m., the Armenian press announced that the Azerbaijani Army fired at Armenian armed units from mortars and drones and injured 7 Armenian soldiers. About an hour after the announcement, the Armenian press confirmed that 1 serviceman was killed and 8 more were wounded.
Around 5:00 p.m., Azerbaijani media began to publish news about the start of an "anti-terrorist" operation by the Azerbaijani military against Armenian units, and a video of an anti-aircraft missile attack on an Armenian position was broadcast.
At around 18:00, the president of the self declared Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, signed a decree announcing partial military mobilization from August 3, 2022. The Armenian press reported that it received this source from the president's office. After this incident, the "Ural" military truck belonging to the members of the Armenian military in Artsakh were allegedly destroyed.
The result
On August 3, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence officially announced that it had conducted an "anti-terrorist" operation code-named "Revenge". As a result of the operation, Armenian forces were prevented from seizing Kirkhgiz hill, located in the mountain range covering the territory of Kalbajar and Lachin regions. The Kyrgyz elevation, as well as SarÄ±baba along the Karabakh ridge of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range and a number of other important commanding heights were capured by Azerbbaijan. As part of the operation, several Armenian combat positions were destroyed, and an aerial attack was made on the military unit in the Yukhari Oratagh settlement in the territory of the former Aghdara region, now Kalbajar region. As a result, according to Azerbaijan, the live force of Armenian militants was destroyed and wounded, as well as several D-30 howitzers, military vehicles and a large amount of ammunition were destroyed.
