ONTORULE

The ONTORULE project (ONTOlogies meet business RULEs) is a large-scale integrating project partially funded by the European Union's 7th Framework Programme under the Information and communication technologies call 3 (ICT-231875). The ONTORULE project started in January 1st of 2009, and its funding by the European Commission ends in December of 2011.
Objective
The objective of the ONTORULE project is to integrate all the required pieces of knowledge and technology to allow the acquisition of ontologies and rules from the most appropriate sources, including natural language documents; their separate management and maintenance; and their transparent operationalization in IT applications.
Methodology
The methodology to achieve the described objectives integrates the work under different work packages concerning business policy acquisition and modeling as well as business rules and Ontology ownership and management. Two use cases in a real industry setting are addressed: a CAx integration case study and a steel industry one, both of them connected to the testbeds ArcelorMittal and Audi, players in their respective sectors. As one of the aims of the project is to allow managing ontologies and rules, some of the standard semantic Web languages (W3C OWL and the upcoming RIF) are used.
