Overview OneWorld Foundation India (herein after referred to as OneWorld) is a registered Indian entity that works in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for social and sustainable development. While OneWorld was registered as a non-profit company under Section 25 in 2008, OneWorld began operations in India in 2000 as the South Asian Centre of the OneWorld International Foundation. In its pioneering role as a knowledge enabler, OneWorld creates, aggregates, manages and disseminates information and knowledge on a gamut of development issues to an array of audiences - from grassroots voices to international policy deliberations -- through its group of portals, editions and thematic channels. Over the years OneWorld has worked with UN agencies (UNDP, UN Women etc.), the World Bank, foreign organisations like Ford Foundation, DFID, SDC and JICA, the Government of India (Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Depart of Science and Technology, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Rural Development), state governments (Rajasthan, Bihar), companies like Cisco and BT, and NGOs like TERI and Akshaya Patra. For its work, OneWorld has won national and international recognition and awards. In 2008, OneWorld's LifeLines was named a Tech Awards Laureate by the Tech Museum of Innovation. In 2008, the partnership between BT, Cisco and OneWorld won the Big Tick Award, UK’s most prominent CSR award, for integrating responsible business practices for positively impacting society. The US Congress has awarded Special Congressional Recognition to LifeLines for outstanding service to the community. The Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP) presented their 2009 Award for Social Responsibility to the LifeLines alliance between OneWorld, BT, and Cisco in February 2009. Media OneWorld South Asia A flagship initiative of OneWorld, the OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) portal is a popular website on sustainable development and human rights. With content collated from NGO partners and written by seasoned journalists, the portal is a one-stop information window on development news from South Asia (http://southasia.oneworld.net/). It is one of the biggest news, features, interviews repositories in the development domain and informs audiences about the latest on social and sustainable development issues in the South Asian region. Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz (One World, One Voice) One of the active agents in the Indian Community Radio movement, in 2005, OneWorld initiated Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz (EDEA), a multi-dimensional community oriented radio program, which incorporates capacity building workshops for Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in the use of audio tools as a means for social and economic empowerment, and for networking and content sharing. EK duniya anEK awaaz (EDAA) - Audio and Knowledge Exchange portal for Community Radio Stations The EDAA (www.edaa.in ) platform of OneWorld is a unique knowledge management service that reaches out to the entire Community Radio movement in the country. One of the biggest content sharing platforms for the Community Radio sector, it allows about 170 Community Radio Stations across the country to upload, share as well as download radio content free of costs according to their needs. Currently, EDAA portal hosts nearly 9,000 radio programmes in more than 28 languages categorised under 36 themes. OneWorld has been providing capacity building services to NGOs across the country along with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on community radio issues and content creation. Technology Services Helpi Helpi, pronounced help-i, is a personal safety Android application that users can employ to alert friends and family as well as post the message on social networking sites in the event of an emergency. Helpi is architected keeping safety of women in mind. Pressing Helpi’s SOS button helps send a pre-configured distress message to all the contacts, including up to five friends, who have been added as an emergency contact. The message also goes to the user’s Twitter account - all this at the push of a button. NyayaPath The project along with Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India and UNDP focusses on strengthening access to information on legal rights, policies and schemes for the less privileged, particularly women, scheduled castes, tribal communities and minorities. In the first phase of the project, legal information, laws and the welfare schemes relevant to the region were digitised and presented in an interesting, menu-driven audio-text-video modules. These modules are available on a user-friendly touch-based menu interface. The digitised content has been packaged in a robust and scalable software application, which focuses on Central and State Government Laws, Policies and Schemes categorized into Child Rights, Citizens’ Rights in a Police Station, Women’s Rights, Senior Citizens’ Rights, Disability Rights, Labour Rights, MGNREGA, Panchayati Raj Information, Right to Information, Motor Vehicle Act, Free Legal Services and Rights of SCs, STs and Forest Dwellers.
