Oneonta Gulf Coast Collaboration

Oneonta Gulf Coast Collaboration (OGC2)
Description:
The purpose of the partnership was to focus relief efforts by the State University of New York at Oneonta community, notably in the area of education, in support of those on the Gulf Coast whose lives have been adversely affected by the hurricanes of 2005. OGC2 spent most of their relief efforts in Pass Christian, MS ; however they also helped out in New Orleans, LA.

Goals:
* To support a mobile school room for the education of migrant and other at-risk children and families affected by the hurricanes.
* To enhance opportunities for educational field experiences for SUNY College at Oneonta students.
* To expand service-learning and experiential education opportunities for SUNY College at Oneonta students.
* To channel relief efforts of the College at Oneonta community to those with the greatest need.

Fundraising:
OGC2’s main fundraiser was called “Strive for Five”. Students, faculty, staff, and, members of the campus community, were encouraged to purchase a share for $5. Donations went towards the purchase of a mobile classroom for the Southern Gulf Coast region. Groups in the Oneonta area were also supporting this effort. When the campaign ended, the group raised $13,000 dollars in just five days.
