==David Bartholomew's "One World Flag"== The One World Flag-- an international symbol of diversity "Honoring the Talents, Abilities and Uniqueness in Each of Us, as Strengths that can Benefit All of Us" "... because we have more in common as a world, than we have differences between nations", was created by David Bartholomew in 1996. It is in the family of international/world/earth/peace flags such as the Peace symbol, Nicholas Roerich's Pax Cultura flag, Earth flag, etc., and is referenced in various vexillology (the study of flags) sites such as Flags of the World . The image Representing sky above and earth below, the circular icon grabs the eye and pulls our attention to center. Like the familiar "yin-yang" symbol and other mandalas, it encompasses all, with everything in balance. Placed within a framework of colors representing the four directions-- as generally agreed upon by Native Americans and many of the world's indigenous peoples-- we are called to continually think and act from a larger perspective. And with the overlapping of these stripes, we are inspired to move forward-- into a future we have always imagined was possible. Mission statement Intended to be flown above the flags of individual nations, the One World Flag calls us to focus on the larger picture-- that we have more in common as a world than we have differences between nations. Within this context, we may then place the utmost value on the unique qualities of each individual and group. Because the time is now... For a world without borders; For heartfelt communication between people of all nations, without the barriers of language; For solutions that encompass everyone; and For a paradigm shift in the minds of us all, who declare that what has been, serves no more. The time is now... for tearing down the walls, opening our hearts, and to... THINK BIGGER! History The One World Flag originated in 1996, a creation of David Bartholomew. It has been supported by Dr. Huston Smith (Thomas J. Watson Professor of Religion and Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, Syracuse University), Bishop Desmond Tutu, John McConnell (founder of Earth Day), local U.N. groups, Unity and Diversity World Council, United Communities of Spirit, New Civilizations Network, and numerous other visionary groups and individuals. The One World Flag has been presented at diversity events at St. Joseph's Hospital (Syracuse, NY), the Country School (Los Angeles, CA), the Unity and Diversity World Council (Los Angeles, CA), Human Relations Commission (Lincolnwood, IL), American Red Cross (Wilmington, NC), Nova Scotia Community College (Kentville, Nova Scotia), and numerous others. The One World Kids program of the One World Flag has been presented in numerous schools. The One World Flag website (to-date) has been translated into French, German, Spanish and Russian.
