Oklahoma Unorganized Militia

The Oklahoma Unorganized Militia, shortened to the Oklahoma militia, is a component of the military of Oklahoma. The Militia is composed of the citizens of Oklahoma which are capable of bearing arms. The Militia consists of ordinary citizens between the ages of 17-70 and may be called upon to provide defense, emergency law enforcement, or paramilitary service without a regular salary or fixed term of service.
The primary purpose of the Militia is to defend local communities against forces that threaten the public peace and security. While this is normally the responsibility of the Oklahoma National Guard and the Oklahoma State Guard, certain emergency circumstances require their support. In such a situation, the Governor of Oklahoma has the authority to call up the Militia to service of the state. Upon being activated, the Oklahoma Department of the Military under the commander of the Adjutant General of Oklahoma is responsible for commanding the Militia.
Any citizen of Oklahoma that is not a member of the Oklahoma National Guard or Oklahoma State Guard is automatically a member of the Militia but actually service is completely voluntary.
