Oge Modie

Ogechukwu Olufunmilola Modie (born January 12, 1976) is a Nigerian technocrat. From 2015 to 2019 she was the chief of staff to Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Minister of State, Petroleum Resources of Nigeria. Modie' 22 year career spans strategy consulting, corporate finance, SME ventures, private equity, opinion research, public policy and administration. Modie is currently working as a strategy consultant in social impact projects and media for organisations and private individuals.
Early life and education
Oge Funlola Modie is an Igbo from Ogwashi Ukwu, Delta State, Nigeria. She grew up on the university campus in Enugu and attended the Federal Government Girls' College, Owerri before going on to study economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and an MBA at the Cranfield School of Management, graduating in 2007.
Career
In 1999 she joined Agusto & Company Limited, Nigeria’s first indigenous credit rating company as an associate consultant in the West African mergers and acquisitions market with a focus on the Nigerian and Ghanaian financial services industry (pre-consolidation era) and Nigeria’s corporate finance landscape.
In September 2003 she joined HEIRS Alliance, a portfolio management company founded by Tony Elumelu where she led various mergers and acquisitions projects across the West African region.
In mid-2005, she joined Nextzon Business Services where she was key in designing the Nextzon business incubator which warranted a grant from the World Bank MSME program.
On her return from business school, in 2008, she founded Alternativ Managers an SME management consulting company) that has partnered with the Ford Foundation, The Nigeria SME Agency (SMEDAN), LEAP Africa and Fate Foundation to build capacity in SMEs and stakeholders in the sector.
From late 2008 to 2011, she was pulled away to help support a social impact investing initiative; Makeda Fund Managers LLC a US$50million SME private equity start-up fund focused on investing in women entrepreneurs across West Africa, and the fund was run in partnership with Small Enterprises Assistance Fund (SEAF) based in Washington, D.C. She was the fund director (West Africa) for the fund. As a fund director, Modie generated interest in investing in women owned/managed SMEs across West Africa. She was responsible for fund marketing, relationship building and managing, deal sourcing and managing investor relationships.
Modie in 2012 worked as the managing director/chief executive officer of NOIPolls Limited(a company founded by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala). Modie was featured in Business Day where she was referred to as "a dynamic woman with skills that show in the ways she carries out her work" and "the first woman to have headed Nigeria’s leading independent opinion polling and research organization". Under her leadership, NOIPolls grew in visibility across the West African region and the continent. The company won various awards; the Global Excellence Quality Award for the "Global Most Innovative Consumer Research and Data Analysis Company" for the year 2014 and the Pan-African Distinguished Achievers Awards (PADAA) for "West Africa's No.1 Opinion Polling Research Organization". In 2015, the company also won the African Quality Achievement Award for "Africa's Most Reliable Quality Opinion Research and Polling Service Provider", Nigerian Brands Organisation's "Most Innovative and Impactful Market Research Agency of the Year-Platinum Award" and "Opinion Polling Company of the Year" by the African Development Magazine.
In 2015, Modie was appointed chief of staff to the group managing director (GMD) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria's National Oil Corporation,Following her initial appointment to the position of the chief of staff to the group managing director (GMD) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria's National Oil Corporation, the GMD was also appointed as Nigeria’s Cabinet Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and named as the chairman of the board of the corporation, as provided for under Section 1(2) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended on 4 July 2016. Her primary responsibility as chief of staff expanded to manage these three key positions of her principal. Aside from being responsible for the oversight and organization of all managerial and key stakeholder activities within these offices, she was also given a key role as the coordinator of Nigeria’s Ministry of Petroleum Resources’ Programme Management Office (PMO) which was responsible for the implementation and provision of leadership direction for the “7 Big Wins” - Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector Reform programme which focused on short and medium term priorities to grow Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry. She assumed duty as chief of staff in August 2015 and handed over in May 2019.
At NNPC, Modie was involved in development and execution of the 20 Fixes Initiative of the former GMD aimed at transforming the corporation and repositioning it to become a transparent and profit-yielding entity; the successful implementation set the tone for turning the profit curve resulting to a first ever profit in a 15-year period in July 2016.
She further championed partnerships between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) with the objective to foster transparency in the Nigerian petroleum industry.
She is a Class of 2015 member of the African Leadership Network (ALN), a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration of Nigeria (FICA), Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Brand Management and an Associate, Women in Management, Business and Politics (WIMBIZ).

Philosophy and personal interests
She is passionate about helping poor and vulnerable persons and participates in various community-based projects that are focused on supporting these persons in the society, empowering families, women, the physically challenged and children.
She loves to create, Modie's creativity pioneered the production and scripting of an original animation video series Onu and Company which were created to support public enlightenment and awareness of opinion polls when she was the managing director/CEO of NOIPolls Limited. She also loves the outdoors and dining.
She is the founder of Wellspring of Life Global Outreach, Kairos Knowledge Centre, Heels of Influence and the First Born Foundation, all charity organizations that support the vulnerable in society.
Writing and broadcasting
She has published a 126-page book 'Waters For the Thirsty Soul: 52 Refreshing Ways To Deepen Your Relationship With God' () and is writing two further books.
She writes a weekly Christian devotional called 'The WellSpring' and a blog entitled 'Fearlessly Authentic'. She was previously a columnist in the monthly column “Becoming You” and quarterly column “The Little Things" for the NNPC (Nigeria’s state-owned oil corporation)'s publications. She is also published in an online news publication called Per Second News.
She hosts a Christian radio show called 'Waters For The Thirsty Soul - Radio Devotional'.
Governance and Boards
Modie was on the board of NOIPolls (2012-2015), KSF Microfinance Bank (2008-2013), Victorious Women Foundation, CedarSeed Foundation, FirstBorn Foundation, Wellspring of Life Global Outreach and Heels Of Influence Initiative.
She was also a Steering Committee Member - Sustainability in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) Conference 2017- 2018 and a Steering Committee Member - Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme (2017-2019).
