Occupy Syracuse

Occupy Syracuse is a peaceful protest and demonstration that began on October 2, 2011, in downtown Syracuse, New York, in Perseverance Park, within a block of several major banks. It is related to the Occupy Wall Street movement that began in New York City on September 17, and calls for economic equity, accountability for politicians, and an end to lobbyist influence in government.
Another target of the Syracuse protests has been Bob Congel and his development of an expansion to Carousel Center, Destiny USA. On November 25th six members of Occupy Syracuse were arrested while protesting about tax breaks that Congel had received to complete the as of yet unbuilt expansion.
Of the Occupy Syracuse camp in Perseverance Park, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has stated that "As long as they’re peaceful and respectful…they can continue to practice their First Amendment rights.”
